3 New MLS faces to watch for
With Arturo Alvarez and Ramon Sanchez(Both with San Jose Earthquakes),Cristian Castillo(DC United), Julio Martinez(Chicago Fire), Osael Romero(Chivas USA)join the MLS to make it 5 players to watch for this season in the MLS.
On Osael Romero to Chivas USA
Chivas USA head coach Martin Vasquez "a young player who in two years has played probably 37 games for his national team and has scored eight goals" and has also "been scoring a lot of goals for his club team in El Salvador.
"So that's what we saw. We're excited. Also, he's very young. He's got a lot of potential and he's very excited to come and be a part of Chivas USA."
Bringing in Romero will not plug the gap left by those two experienced and hard-nosed players, but it will add some offensive thrust to the Chivas midfield. In fact, Romero could be a starter right away.
"On paper, of course," Vasquez said. "But he has to make the adjustment. He has shown he can play at every level. He's played World Cup qualifiers, which in my opinion are a better level than MLS, so if he's starting for his national team, he should be starting for us."
Dallas had filed a discovery claim on the player, which is why Chivas USA had to pay a fee for his rights in the form of allocation money. The amount was not revealed, but Romero will be with Chivas USA on loan from his El Salvador club team this season.
In announcing his acquisition, Chivas USA quoted Romero as saying he was "looking forward to the challenge" of playing in MLS.
Chivas USA is hoping Romero will connect with local fans as well as another Salvadoran international midfielder -- Mauricio Cienfuegos -- who carved out an exceptional career with the Galaxy.
Cristian Castillo to DC United
GM Dave Kasper of DC UNITED on Cristian Castillo
"We are excited to acquire a young player like Cristian, who we feel is one of the most talented players in El Salvador. He has performed well at the club level and certainly established himself as one of the most important players on the national team in the recent World Cup qualifying campaign. Cristian has excellent speed and technical ability, and will be an exciting addition to our midfield.”
Julio Martinez to Chicago Fire
Head Coach Carlos De Los Cobos of Chicago Fire On Julio Maritnez
"Julio is a true professional with a winner's mentality who will come in and help our team," said Coach de los Cobos. "I could not be happier about his signing and look forward to incorporating him in with the rest of the guys." "Martinez is an exciting player who's known for his middle-range shooting and ability to score goals and I think he'll make an excellent addition to our roster," said Fire technical director Frank Klopas.
now its just to wait and see how they play and see if they can live up to there praise.
